8. 見えないたばこの害
Invisible harm of cigarette
Remaining secondhand smoke makes you inhale harmful substances even
after cigarette’s fire is extinguished. Harmful substances in cigarette
continue to occur for 40 minutes or longer from smoker’s breath after
smoking. It is said that harmful substances remain on the person’s hair
and clothes etc. and float in the air little by little. In addition, they also
stick to nearby curtains and wall paper and float in the air again for
several months. “It is OK since I am smoking under ventilating fan or on
the balcony.”, “It is OK since it is an e-cigarette without smoke.” These
comments are not right. Harm of cigarette exists invisibly. Even outdoors,
cigarette’s smoke reaches as far as 25 m downwind, although not visible,
when sencing the smell, you get secondhand smoke. For details such as
measures to prevent secondhand smoke, relation between cigarette and
health, you can read them on city website. In Toyokawa city, public health
nurse provides health consultation service for smoking cessation and
concerns about cigarette. Please feel free to consult.
